Description
An endometrial pipelle is a device used to obtain endometrial samples in an outpatient setting. It’s commonly used to diagnose endometrial pathology in women with abnormal uterine bleeding or postmenopausal bleeding.
The pipelle biopsy samples only 4% of the endometrial surface, but has a sensitivity of up to 97%. The procedure is generally safe, but you may experience mild period-type pain during the procedure.
An endometrial biopsy can also be used to check for uterine infections, the effects of hormone therapy, or to find abnormal cells or cancer.
